PSYCHOCON is an annual games convention held in a comfortable hotel in the centre of Leeds within walking distance of Leeds Station. This is the fourth time it has been run and we are back in Leeds for the second time. The games played are mostly modern boardgames but last year also featured tabletop miniatures and this year sees the return of the Backgammon tournament on Sunday. Role players, Wargamers and other types of games and gamers are also very welcome - we're a sociable crowd!
How many people come to PSYCHOCON?
Last year we had around 50, this year we are hoping that will rise to over 70.
How easy will it be to get a game?
With over fifty people attending, it's easy to join in a game. Most games we play cater for between 2 and 5 players (and some can
accommodate more) so there will be plenty of games going on simultaneously. Either look for people setting up a game and ask is there room for you to join in or set up your own game and ask people to join you or go to the registration desk and look lost - whoever's on duty will get you into a game. The Silly Drive on Saturday morning will ensure you start the day by meeting many different players and then you can take it from there!
Do I need to bring games with me?
There's no need to bring games as the regular attendees will arrive fully laden but it you have a favourite game you want to play, bring it
along! For any tournament games there will be copies available but feel free to bring your copy - the more the merrier!
What are tournament games and how do I join?
There are a number of tournament games run at PSYCHOCON, these include: Acquire, Puerto Rico, Formula De, Diplomacy, Settlers, Backgammon, Street Soccer, Lost Cities and probably others too. Details of when these are being run and how to join will be available in the PSYCHOCON programme booklet available for download from the PSYCHOCON website nearer the date, or at PSYCHOCON itself.
How do I sign-up?
Preferably by booking in advance but we know plans sometimes have to be flexible and you can pay on the door. To encourage you to register in advance, if you do so before 31st August you'll get a discount! Details can be found on the "Tickets" page. If you can get a group of
5 or more people to sign up in advance even more discount is possible - ask Steve for details.
Do I have to stay at the hotel?
No, you can make your own accommodation arrangements. We have negotiated a special rate with the hotel for convention attendees. However staying at the hotel has a number of advantages - your bed is only a few steps away so you can stay up as late and make full use of the bar which, after 11pm, is only open to residents. Your breakfast will be cooked for you and if you're an early bird you can start playing games as soon as you've got up!
Will I be able to buy games at PSYCHOCON? Yes, this year Patriot Games will be bringing a stall full of games for you to purchase and we are currently arranging how much discount you'll benefit from. If Patriot Games don't have the game you're after you can always try Travelling Man which is within walking distance of The Golden Lion Hotel. Psychocon attendees can order games from Patriot Games prior to the event www.patriotgames.ltd.uk and pick their games up at the venue if they wish to play them over the weekend.
